Privacy Policy

Effective date: 20/02/2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to DeltaTrace ("we", "us", "our"). DeltaTrace is a web-based Formula 1 data analysis tool that lets users explore timing and telemetry data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use delta-trace.com, how we use and protect it, and what rights you have under applicable data protection law (including the GDPR and Hungarian law).

DeltaTrace is operated by the same individual who operates CSC Motorsport, but this policy applies specifically to the DeltaTrace tool available at https://www.delta-trace.com/.

2. Data controller

Name: Bálint Csermák-Scharbert
Address: 1022 Budapest, Hungary

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, you can contact me through the form on cscmotorsport.com.

3. What data DeltaTrace collects

3.1 Usage data

When you visit or interact with the site, we may automatically collect certain technical and usage information, for example:

  • IP address and approximate location (city/region level).
  • Browser type, version and device information.
  • Operating system and screen resolution.
  • Date, time and duration of your visit.
  • Pages, graphs and menus you interact with (for example, which views you open, error messages).
  • Events recorded by analytics tools (such as page views, clicks, scrolls, and general interaction flows).

Some of this information is collected through Google Analytics 4, which uses cookies and similar technologies to help us understand how DeltaTrace is used and to improve performance.

3.2 Telemetry and interaction data

DeltaTrace works with racing telemetry from external motorsport data providers such as OpenF1 and Jolpica. These datasets describe cars, drivers and sessions on track (lap times, sector times, positions, telemetry channels, weather data, etc.), not visitors to the website.

In addition to this raw telemetry, DeltaTrace may log how you use the analysis tool, for example:

  • Which year, race and session you select.
  • Which drivers and laps you compare.
  • Which telemetry channels (speed, throttle, brake, RPM, gear, weather) you open.
  • Graph settings such as zoom ranges or overlays.

This interaction data is logged in a way that is not directly tied to your name or account, but may be linked to your IP address or device through normal web logs or analytics tools.

3.3 Contact and feedback data (optional)

If you submit a bug report or feedback via a form or email linked from DeltaTrace, we may collect:

  • Your name (if you choose to provide it).
  • Your email address.
  • The content of your message (including any screenshots or technical details you share).

3.4 Cookies and similar technologies

DeltaTrace may use cookies or similar technologies to:

  • Remember basic preferences (for example, dismissing the help overlay).
  • Measure how the site is used so that performance and usability can be improved.
  • Support analytics provided by Google Analytics 4 (for example, to recognise returning visits or measure general traffic trends).

You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Where required, a cookie banner or notice will give you options to accept or reject non-essential cookies.

4. How we use your data

We use your data for the following purposes:

To provide the DeltaTrace service

Load and display telemetry graphs and comparison tools using data from OpenF1, Jolpica and similar motorsport data sources.

Ensure the site functions correctly and securely.

To monitor performance and fix issues

Analyse usage data and errors so we can debug loading problems, slow pages or broken graphs.

Detect and prevent abuse or attacks on the service.

To improve DeltaTrace

Understand which views, drivers and channels are used most, so we can prioritise new features.

Aggregate interaction data to see how users move through the app and to refine the analysis experience.

Use aggregated analytics data from Google Analytics 4 to understand general traffic patterns (for example, which pages are most visited, which countries users come from, and which features are used).

To respond to you

Answer questions, bug reports or feedback you send via forms or email.

Keep a record of communications in case we need to follow up.

We do not use DeltaTrace telemetry or interaction data to profile you outside of the service, and we do not sell your personal data.

5. Legal bases for processing (GDPR)

We process your data under the following legal bases:

  • Contractual necessity: To provide the DeltaTrace tool you choose to use (for example, loading telemetry graphs and maintaining the site).
  • Legitimate interests: To operate, secure and improve DeltaTrace, including basic analytics and debugging. We balance these interests against your rights and minimise the data we store.
  • Consent: For optional cookies or when you explicitly agree to be contacted (for example, when you submit a feedback form and tick a consent box, if present).
  • Legal obligation: Where we must retain certain information to comply with Hungarian or EU law.

6. Telemetry data, OpenF1 and Jolpica

DeltaTrace uses timing and telemetry data from third-party motorsport data providers such as OpenF1 and Jolpica. These providers supply event, timing and car telemetry data, which DeltaTrace processes and visualises.

This telemetry data describes the performance of racing cars and drivers, not of visitors to the site. DeltaTrace does not attempt to identify you as an individual based on this telemetry data.

Each data provider has its own terms and privacy documentation, which govern their handling of the underlying racing data. DeltaTrace does not control how those providers collect or store the original telemetry, but only processes it to display and analyse races to you.

7. Sharing your data

We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate DeltaTrace (for example, cloud hosting, web analytics such as Google Analytics 4, or error logging). These providers only process data on our instructions and are bound by appropriate data protection obligations.
  • Motorsport data providers such as OpenF1 and Jolpica, but only to the extent needed to request and receive telemetry and timing data. We do not send your personal contact details to these providers as part of normal use of DeltaTrace.
  • Public authorities or legal advisers if we are required to do so by law or in order to protect our rights, users, or the security of the service.

For Google Analytics 4, Google may process usage data (such as pages visited and general device information) on our behalf to provide aggregated analytics reports. You can read more in Google's own privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

If DeltaTrace uses additional third-party analytics or monitoring tools that involve personal data, those tools will be named here or in a linked list.

8. Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

Usage and analytics data is typically retained in aggregated form and may be stored for longer periods to help understand long-term trends, but we aim to minimise data wherever possible.

If you contact us directly (for example, by email), we may keep your message for a reasonable period so we can refer back to it if needed.

9. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal data and receive a copy of it.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Request deletion of your data in certain circumstances.
  • Object to certain processing (for example, when we rely on legitimate interests).
  • Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (this does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal).
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU Member State where you live, work, or where you believe a breach occurred.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details provided in Section 2.

10. Complaints and supervisory authority

If you have concerns about how your personal data is handled, please contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) or with your local supervisory authority in the EU.

11. International data transfers

DeltaTrace is operated from Hungary, but some of our service providers (for example, hosting or analytics) may process data in other countries, including outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, we aim to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place, such as standard contractual clauses or other mechanisms recognised under data protection law.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add new features or use new service providers.

The "Effective date" at the top of the page shows when this Privacy Policy was last updated. If changes are significant, we may provide additional notice (for example, via a banner on the site).

By continuing to use DeltaTrace after changes take effect, you agree to the updated Privacy Policy.
